What is Dermadry?

Dermadry is a home-use tap water iontophoresis device that treats excessive sweating of the hands, feet, and underarms.

How does Dermadry work?

Dermadry is a home tap-water iontophoresis device. It works by directing a mild current through the skin, which neutralizes the connection between the nerves and sweat glands. The current inhibits sweat production in the treated area, which leads to a sweat reduction in the treated zone.

Are there clinical studies on iontophoresis?

Many studies have been conducted on the safety and efficiency of iontophoresis as a treatment option for hyperhidrosis. The earliest literature on iontophoresis as a treatment method dates back to the 1930s. Since then, a an increasing number of studies are performed every year on hyperhidrosis and iontophoresis.

Many of these studies have demonstrated that the success rates of iontophoresis in the treatment of hyperhidrosis can reach 93%, 98.5% and even 100% of patients treated for hyperhidrosis. Learn more about the science behind iontophoresis (and success rates) here.

How effective is Dermadry?

Dermadry is highly effective in treating the majority of hyperhidrosis cases, from mild to severe. In April 2020, we conducted a customer satisfaction survey on 700 Dermadry users, this study showed that:

  • 98.3% of Dermadry users saw a reduction in their sweat level in the treated area(s).
  • 95.5% said they would recommend Dermadry to someone who also struggles with excessive sweating.
  • There was an overall 91.2% customer satisfaction rate.

What’s the difference between your products?

The difference between the products in our range is simply the areas they treat. Dermadry Hands & Feet is only for the treatment of hands and feet, Dermadry Underarms is only for the treatment of underarms, and Dermadry Total treats all three zones: hands, feet, and underarms.

Is this a permanent treatment/cure?

There is no cure for hyperhidrosis. Iontophoresis is a highly effective treatment option that with maintained use can provide long-lasting dryness.

Where can I do my treatments?

Our device is portable and can be used from anywhere. All that is needed is access to an outlet (energy source) and tap water. You can set it up in your living room and use it while watching your favourite show, or set it up in your home office and catch up on work while doing it (depending, of course, on the zone you are treating)!

Is Dermadry easy to use?

Dermadry is very simple to use as it was built with user-friendliness in mind. Our all-in-one device only takes about a minute to set up. Every device comes with a clear and concise instruction manual that outlines everything you need to know before, during, and after your treatment. Our device’s modern design and built-in presets, means that you just have to click a few buttons to get it started.

How long are treatments?

Underarm treatments are 15 minutes each, while treatments for hands and feet are both 20 minutes each.

How long do I have to do treatments for?

Treatment frequency depends on the severity of hyperhidrosis (generally categorized as mild, moderate, or severe). The more intense your sweating is, the more treatments will need to be performed.

To get a better understanding of how often you will need to do treatments, read our iontophoresis guide here, and check out our iontophoresis FAQ here.

Do I have to keep doing treatments to stay dry?

Yes. Dermadry’s iontophoresis treatments are divided into two stages: the initial phase, and the maintenance phase. The initial phase is generally 4-6 weeks long, until you achieve your desired dryness. Once this has been achieved, maintenance treatments must be performed (frequency depends on level of hyperhidrosis as well). The majority of people only have to do a treatment every 1-2 weeks in the maintenance phase. These treatments can provide up to 6 weeks of dryness at a time.

Isn’t it normal to sweat?

Of course! It’s completely normal and completely necessary to sweat, in order to regulate body temperature. However, those who suffer from hyperhidrosis sweat 4-5 more than is needed for thermoregulation needs. There are between 2-4 million sweat glands on the body, and reducing excessive sweating in localized areas (hands, feet, and/or underarms) will not affect the ability to sweat normally on other parts of the body.

Hyperhidrosis is not just “normal” sweating, it’s constant, excessive, and uncontrollable sweating. Those who do not suffer from hyperhidrosis may not realize how deeply it can affect everything from a person’s self confidence to their mental health. It is normal to sweat, until it interferes with your daily life, or you must plan your life around your condition. It is important to get treated in order to regain some normalcy in everyday life.

Will I sweat somewhere else or will I experience compensatory sweating?

No. The area(s) being treated with hyperhidrosis account for only a small percentage of the body’s total sweat glands, and as the treatment is localized to these zones, it will generally not lead to any compensatory sweating. Iontophoresis drastically reduces sweat levels to an absolute minimum, it does not stop sweating to a point where your body is no longer able to produce sweat.
